Ok so I was kind of skeptical about this “repair kit” thing but surprisingly it actually works. Basically what happened is a friend of mine is one of those guys that does some customization to everything he owns, so just a few months after he got his Xbox 360, he had already taken it down and given her a custom paint job. Naturally both of us didn’t think the repair center would repair the console if it fell victim to the “Red Ring of Death”. However concerned he kept his cool and stated: “Where is the fun in that?”

I’m sure you can guess what happened, a few weeks ago, sure enough the system displayed the three lights around the power button, his xbox fell victim to the failure rate. For those not familiar to the term RRoD/Red Ring of Death is when your xbox 360 will display three red lights around the power button as a warning of system failure.

Now, since like I said before he has opened his system, so he can’t send it in for repair, so we went out to search for a Do it yourself method, this included posting and searching on a few forums…which were absolutely useless most posts being something of the nature of: “lolololz tak xbox back to repairz center, call number, they send box” apparently people only read the title of posts and ignored the fact that we had both stated that he had taken the console apart and there for probably would not get any warranty.

So eventually he decided to look at the random websites that sell these “repair kits” and he got lucky. Basically this one comes in a PDF format so you can download it right away and get to work, it also gives you access to videos to aid you in the repair process. Neither me or my friend are too good at servicing electronics, but just as the product states we had his xbox 360 up and running in no time, the same day we downloaded the PDF!

On another note during our search for a do it yourself method, we found a number of people advertising on local classifieds claiming same day fixes for xbox 360s I’m very certain they are just using this product. Now the absolute lowest offer for this service was $40 dollars…..thats nearly twice as much as downloading the PDF yourself costs!

So if you have a console that you cannot send into the repair center, or just want to do the repair yourself and skip the long wait (for a refubished console keep in mind they do not send you a new console!) Check it out, its cheap and it works, theres not all that much more I can say.

But Over all this might be a good investment, as the first Red Ring of death warranties are going to start expiring in the next coming months, once that warranty ends… I have serious doubts that repair of your xbox 360 will cost under $30 dollars. Above all, it is better to do it yourself for cheaper then pay some random guy you met through the internet nearly twice as much.

The fact that I have put a front sight guard on the rifle is always the focus of conversation…These are almost always removed in the process of sporterizing the rifles and in my opinion for no good reason.

Now the questions that always come up about it

“Why do you have that on there?” Answer: Well I chose to put a front sight guard on my enfield becuase I usually do not bench rifles that do not have optics on them, if I’m using a rifle with just iron sights, I find myself better at firing it standing. I usually do this with a target at about 50 yards, ok, the grouping isn’t too great becuase I’m standing, but it is fun and good practice for steadying a rifle while standing. The sight guard actually proves as a good marker to line the target with the front sight, and thats pretty helpful when you’re shooting standing.

Naturally there are other reasons, such as it looks cool and it was cheap, which leads to the other questions

“Where did you get it?” Ebay, and it was very cheap, there are a number of online stores you can find this item on for incredibly cheap. I wouldn’t count on any gun stores having a ready supply of these so you might have to support the evil internet people instead of supporting your local gun store on this one.

Now the question that should never be asked “how did you put it on?” Like I said, I have no Idea why people ask this but they have in the past… the sight guard is bolted on with a single screw that threads through the base of the front sight….I didn’t have a screw that was black so once I had installed the sight guard I took some matte black model paint and painted the top of the screw, to keep with the look of the sight guard, muzzle and barrel of course. Finding a screw and painting it were the hardest step in the installation.

If you own and enfield and ever come across one, buy it providing it isn’t unfairly priced. It helps while shooting, looks cool and also is a must have if you are restoring a sporterized enfield back to the military configuration.
